Angel’s Landing Trail Temporary Closure – October 2, 2017
If you’re planning a visit to Zion National Park next week, you will need to plan around the scheduled closure of the ever popular Angel’s Landing Trail. The National Park Service has scheduled the closure for much needed maintenance beginning Monday, October 2, 2017 at 7:00am thru Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 7:00am.
According to the Park Service, the maintenance will include “replacing guide posts and worn sections of chain; removing litter and graffiti; and re-shaping some of the steps chiseled into the sandstone” (nps, zion).
The closure will also affect hikers on the West Rim Trail on Monday between the hours of 7:00am – 1:00pm. During that time, hikers will not be allowed to pass as the trail workers are performing maintenance. The trail will be open to thru hikers on the West Rim Trail the rest of the week.
Don’t let this disappointing news get you down. Try one of our favorite trails instead! One of our favs in the park is just across the canyon and at the peak you can look down on Angel’s Landing. It’s call Observation Point and we highly recommend it! The Park service also recommends Hidden Canyon, which is accessible from the same trail head.
HikeStGeorge is a project that began as a seedling for Tim LeBaron in the early part of 2008, but really didn’t begin to blossom until the latter part of 2011. The original idea behind the site was to bring to light all of the harder to find, or “less known” hidden gems of the area. It was more of a pet project than anything. As excitement about the site began to spread, there was more of a push to develop information about all hikes in the Southern Utah Region.
