Staycation at The Ledges of St George

We spent the weekend at The Ledges last week and enjoyed a stay in one of the homes managed by Ledges Vacation Rentals, and ate dinner at The Fish Rock Grille.

Vacation Rentals are becoming an increasingly popular way to vacation for many families because of the convenience of staying together, sharing the cost of accommodations and having access to a kitchen. For those coming down from Northern Utah, up from Southern California or any other part of the world, the short term rentals at The Ledges will rival any you will find in Southern Utah. For us, this was a stay-cation – a vacation style that is also becoming increasingly popular.

1. Ledges Vacation Rentals Unit 1656

We stayed in Unit 1656 in The Escapes. This is one of the newer units that has been added to the rental pool, and was furnished perfectly for our little family and that of our friends. Between our two families we had five kids between the ages of 0 to 10, so being right across the street from the pool was a huge plus for them. This home sits right on the 18th green of The Ledges Golf Course. We sat in the living room and watched out the back windows as golfers passed by. The pickleball courts are right out the front door, and although we really wanted to play, with everything else that was available we didn’t have time.

2. Amazing Food and Service at The Fish Rock Grille

After splashing in the pool for a little while we drove over to The Fish Rock Grille, which is the restaurant in The Ledges Club House. We were greeted by the chef and the restaurant manager and were treated like royalty! One question we had before we went was if they had a kids menu, because it was not advertised on their website. When we called for our reservation they let us know that they do have a great kids menu, and they are even open to making something custom for kids with particular tastes. Dinner was AMAZING! We were shocked with how quickly they brought out the food for the kids, and our server explained that they love to have families come and try to make the experience for the kids a positive as possible by giving them a menu they can color on, and getting their food out quickly so they aren’t just sitting and waiting. After a delicious round of their signature Halibut dish and the NY Steak, we had to be rolled out the front door. The food was amazing and the quantities were perfect, and most importantly, our kids ate the food as well, and left very happy!

3. Snow Canyon State Park

We were sad to check out of this beautiful home. We are already thinking about the next time we will come and stay at The Ledges! We weren’t quite ready for reality yet though, so we headed three minutes up the highway to Snow Canyon State Park and went for a nice morning walk on the White Rocks Amphitheater trail.

Snow Canyon has many great trail options for families, groups and individuals. White Rocks Amphitheater is a short, family friendly hike that begins from the trailhead just off Hwy 18 (just north of the north park entrance) and heads toward a grand outcropping of white Navajo Sandstone. As you hike up onto the rocks and into the little “amphitheater” box canyon, there are remains of an old wall built by cattle ranchers to catch the water in this little canyon. At the end of the canyon there is a really cool pure white sand hill that will remind you of being on a beach somewhere. This was a great bonus for our family, because our kids love playing in the sand, and the trail is short enough that they didn’t have any trouble making it in. There are also great views on this trail if you’re willing to climb a little bit. We hiked up the rocks and got great views of Snow Canyon from a little bit different perspective, and then looking east toward Pine Valley Mountain, we enjoyed the contrasts of the white sandstone, black lava rocks and yellow and green foliage on the desert floor. Snow Canyon State Park never disappoints!

HikeStGeorge is a project that began as a seedling for Tim LeBaron in the early part of 2008, but really didn’t begin to blossom until the latter part of 2011. The original idea behind the site was to bring to light all of the harder to find, or “less known” hidden gems of the area. It was more of a pet project than anything. As excitement about the site began to spread, there was more of a push to develop information about all hikes in the Southern Utah Region.
